Energy Broker FAQ — MGB Broker

Question 1

What does an energy broker do?

Accepted Answer

An energy broker acts as your representative in the electricity and natural gas market. Instead of accepting the first rate a supplier offers, we take your usage profile to a network of licensed retail energy suppliers, collect competing offers, and negotiate on your behalf. Our loyalty is to your business, not to any single supplier.

Question 2

How much does your service cost?

Accepted Answer

Nothing. In this industry, suppliers — not clients — compensate brokers. You pay no fee for our comparison, negotiation, or guidance. If you don't switch, you don't pay anything.

Question 3

Which states do you serve?

Accepted Answer

We serve businesses across deregulated U.S. energy markets, including Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, and Massachusetts, among others. If you're unsure whether your state is deregulated, contact us and we'll confirm in minutes.

Question 4

What's the difference between a fixed and a variable rate?

Accepted Answer

A fixed rate locks your price per kWh or therm for the length of the contract, protecting you from market spikes. A variable rate follows the market — it can drop, but it can also rise sharply. Most businesses with predictable usage benefit from fixed rates; we model both against your consumption history so you can decide with real numbers.

Question 5

How fast can I get a rate comparison?

Accepted Answer

Usually within one business day. For standard commercial accounts we can present side-by-side supplier offers within 24 hours of receiving your usage data. Larger or multi-site accounts can take a few days longer because we shop them more broadly.

Question 6

Can you help us switch to green energy?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We price certified renewable plans — wind, solar, and renewable natural gas — alongside conventional supply in every comparison, so choosing green energy never means paying blindly. You see exactly what the premium or savings is.

Question 7

Do I have to switch suppliers to benefit?

Accepted Answer

No. If your current contract is competitive, we'll tell you. We track your contract end dates and come back to you before renewal with fresh market comparisons — that timing is when businesses typically capture the best rates.

Question 8

What do I need to get started?

Accepted Answer

Ideally, a recent electricity or gas bill. That gives us your usage, your current rate, and your contract end date — everything needed to request competing offers. Don't have it handy? We can usually retrieve usage data with your utility account information.
